PpR Editions is honoured to announce a new publication, Joy Davidson by David Bennett. On March 30, 1979, Joy Division performed the first of their two concerts at the Walthamstow Youth Centre in East London. Just two days later, they would begin recording their iconic debut album, Unknown Pleasures. Unfortunately, due to a misprint in Melody Maker, about 20-30 attended the gig, of whom a handful were non-members and the majority being youngsters from the youth centre.
No images, recordings or video are known to exist of the Joy Division performance at the Walthamstow Youth Centre. David Bennett’s images are a response to a gig witnessed by a fortunate few, yet tragically left unrecorded.
